Lactation Consulting with Medical Insight — In Central Florida
At Central Florida Breastfeeding Medicine and Primary Care, Dr. Kelly Martinkus offers in-person lactation consultations that combine IBCLC support with medical training. Whether you’re a few days postpartum or several months in, we help you identify what’s going wrong — and more importantly, what will help.
Low Milk Supply or Oversupply
You’re feeding often.
You’re pumping constantly.
You’re doing “all the things” — and it still doesn’t feel like enough.
Or maybe you’re dealing with oversupply: constant leaking, painful engorgement, or a baby who chokes during feeds.
These issues are common — especially for parents with conditions like PCOS, insulin resistance, thyroid disorders, or a history of breast surgery. But they don’t have to be permanent.
Dr. Martinkus assesses milk supply through observation, history, and, if necessary, lab review. We can also explore:
- Support for exclusive pumping
- Combination feeding (nursing + bottle)
- Strategies for tandem nursing
- Managing supply changes during weaning or re-lactation
- Safe supplementation plans that support your goals
Together, we’ll create a plan to increase or balance your supply safely, without gimmicks or one-size-fits-all advice.

Painful Breastfeeding, Nipple Trauma, or Mastitis
Pain is not a rite of passage. If your nipples are cracked, bleeding, or sore — or you’re experiencing deep breast pain, clogged ducts, or mastitis — something’s wrong. And it’s absolutely treatable.
During your consult, we’ll assess:
- Latch quality and positioning
- Feeding technique
- Pumping technique and flange fit
- Possible causes of nipple trauma or breast pain
Dr. Martinkus can diagnose medical conditions like vasospasm, thrush, dermatitis, or mammary dysbiosis, and prescribe evidence-based treatments if needed.
Our goal is simple: reduce pain, prevent infection, and help you breastfeed in comfort. No more guessing. No more pushing through the pain.
Oral Restrictions, Tongue Tie, Torticollis, and Oral Function Concerns
Feeding feels frustrating. Your baby unlatches constantly, seems gassy or fussy at the breast, or isn’t gaining weight. You’ve heard terms like “tongue tie,” “oral restriction,” or “tight jaw,” but you’re not sure what’s going on — or who to trust.
Dr. Martinkus provides a full oral function evaluation, including:
- Tongue, lip, and jaw mobility
- Coordination of suck, swallow, and breathing
- Torticollis or neck tightness
- Head/neck movement patterns
While Dr. Martinkus doesn’t perform frenotomy procedures, she’ll explain all your options — including surgical and non-surgical options such as:
- Laser vs. scissor vs. electrocautery procedures
- Therapy options (SLP, OT, PT)
- Bodywork options (CST, CFT, chiropractic, OMM)
You don’t need to jump to surgery. But you do need a clear answer.

Support for Pumping, Combo Feeding & Return to Work
Feeding isn’t always exclusive breastfeeding — and that’s okay. Whether you’re exclusively pumping, supplementing with formula, or preparing to go back to work, you still deserve high-quality, individualized care that supports your feeding goals.
We can help with:
- Flange fitting and breast pump selection
- Bottle refusal and gentle reintroduction strategies
- Creating a flexible return-to-work plan
- Safe milk storage and transport
- Managing milk supply while pumping or combo feeding
- Exclusive pumping setup and ongoing support
- At-breast supplementation using SNS or bottle support
- Navigating tandem nursing (feeding two children of different ages)
- Expressing milk after infant or fetal loss with care and sensitivity
No guilt. No pressure. No one-size-fits-all plan.
We meet you exactly where you are and help you feed your baby in the way that works for your life.
When Things Feel Off and You Don’t Know Why
Sometimes you don’t have a diagnosis — you just have a gut feeling.
You’re exhausted.
You’re crying during feeds.
You’re touched out.
You’re trying everything, and nothing seems to help. Maybe you’re dealing with:
- Baby who’s not gaining weight
- Bottle preference or refusal
- Latch pain with no visible trauma
- Dysphoric Milk Ejection Reflex (DMER)
- Postpartum anxiety or exhaustion
Dr. Martinkus takes your entire story into account, not just your milk output. She will listen deeply and evaluate the full picture. Whether it’s a minor tweak or a major breakthrough, we’re here to support you with calm, clinical clarity – without judgement.
